Does Your Loved One Need Rehab?

Does Your Loved One Need Rehab?

One of the most painful things for any family member to have to come to terms with is a loved one that’s addicted to narcotics. Not only can exposure to drugs take a huge toll on an individual’s health – the narcotic formulas can also affect relationships, personalities, and emotions. If you’re concerned that one of your loved ones might be exposing themselves to any type of drug, always seek medical advice and consider a holistic drug treatment plan. If you’re unsure about their abuse however, then here are a few tell-tale signs to look out for.

Mood Swings

Although this symptom can be very common within a range of illnesses and medical ailments, when paired with the others below there can quickly become cause for alarm. If your loved one is experiencing sudden and unexplainable mood swings, it might be because of cravings for their latest fix. In these instances it is best not to irritate the situation, and simply seek medical support instead.

Aggression

Certain drugs such as LSD, cocaine, and heroin can have mind-altering effects – specifically on a person’s ability to control their emotions. When high on these narcotics it’s not uncommon for people to feel invincible, and in many cases this symptom can reveal itself as aggression. Sudden outbursts can be common; especially when the effects of the drug are wearing off, and the body craves another fix.

Lethargy

Another very common symptom of drug abuse is lethargy – but as this symptom can be present with tiredness right through to depression, it should always be compared with other signs to fully understand the likelihood of substance abuse. If you know someone that is always tired, or if they become tired all of a sudden and without rational explanation, then this can sometimes be the drugs leaving their system – and further monitoring is advised.

Visible/ Physical Signs

Not all drugs will leave noticeable signs, but those that can be injected will do. If you notice pin-point sized pierces on parts of the body; especially those that are close to veins, then this can be one of the most prominent symptoms to look out for. The more holes are present, the more likely that consistent injections will be taking place, and the advice of a medical expert should always be sought in these cases.

Irrational Behavior

Drugs can make even the most kind-hearted people do bad things. It’s not always the fault of the abuser, especially if a particular narcotic is able to overwhelm their regular thought processes. In these cases outbursts can be problematic, but a more sinister concern is that of theft and burglary. Many drug addicts (up to 35% according to a recent study) have admitted to stealing from family and friends to fund their habit. If you suspect that this is taking place, seek expert advice as soon as possible.

Fortunately, drug addictions of all severities can be treated at drug rehabs, and if your loved one is showing the signs mentioned above they may need to be signed up for a course and treatment.
